Who is Eligible For It

Beard transplant is suitable for anyone who is typically unhappy with the appearance of their beard and wants a thicker, fuller or more evenly distributed beard, without any identified chronic conditions. Suitable candidates for beard transplants usually share certain characteristics.

Sparse or Patchy Beard Growth: If you have areas of thin or patchy beard growth on your face, a beard transplant may be the solution for you. Patchy beard growth causes facial hair to appear missing or uneven. The desired aesthetic goal can be achieved with beard transplant.

Genetic Factors: Sparse beard growth or beard growth only in certain areas that you see in your family history and yourself may be among the primary reasons for you to consider beard transplant. If you suffer from this kind of genetic factor-induced sparse beard problem, you can learn the most suitable beard transplant technique from your doctor.

Scarring or Injury: Scars from facial injuries, burns or surgical procedures can inhibit natural beard growth. While beard transplant can help hide or fill such scars, the size and cause of the scars are also very important. Being as transparent as possible with your doctor about your medical history during your beard transplant consultation plays an important role in the aesthetic satisfaction you will receive.

How the Procedure Works

Beard transplant is personalized, just like hair transplant, and your doctor will devise a customized beard transplant plan for you based on the cause of the beard sparseness and your face shape during the consultation. The technique that suits you best will be determined by your specialist doctor.

Beard Transplant with FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) Technique

Beard transplant with the FUE technique consists of 3 parts. After the patient is prepared for the operation with local anesthesia, the amount of hair follicles deemed suitable for the beard is harvested from the selected donor area (usually the back of the head or the sides). These grafts are kept in a special liquid until the channeling process. After the collection process is finished, the specialist opens the hair follicle channels with a sapphire knife where the hair follicles will be transferred.

This process is very important for the natural appearance and density of the beard. After the canal opening process is completed, the collected grafts are carefully placed in these channels. This procedure is less invasive than the traditional FUT procedure. The technique to be applied in beard transplant is determined according to the suitability and needs of the case.

You can see how the FUE beard transplant surgery is performed step by step here (Click Here).

Beard Transplantation with DHI (Direct Hair Implantation)

Technique With the DHI technique, the procedure time is shorter than FUE in suitable cases. This procedure consists of 2 steps.
After the local anesthesia is administered to the patient's beard and donor area, the hair follicles are collected with a special instrument called a Choi pen from the area where the grafts will be collected.

In this process, as a special feature of CHOI, while the hair follicles are transplanted, canal opening also takes place simultaneously. For this reason, an additional step is not required. The feasibility of this technique depends on the suitability of the case and your doctor will tell you which technique is suitable for you at the initial consultation.  You can see how the DHI beard transplant surgery is performed step by step here (Click Here)

Before and After

You can access pictures of beard transplant performed with Sapphire FUE Beard Transplant and DHI Beard Transplant method here. The change and recovery that occurs in patients who have undergone beard transplantation with both methods is very impressive. In the images, you can see that the patients get very healthy beards in a short time.

Recovery Process

During the recovery process after a beard transplant, adhering to the doctor's care instructions is critical to achieving successful results. Each individual's recovery process is unique to their own, so it is important to stay in touch with your doctor and create a recovery plan that suits your individual's needs.

  1. Immediate Postoperative Period (0-7 Days)

Day of Procedure: Due to the local anesthesia, you should avoid strenuous activities on the day of the beard transplant. You may experience mild discomfort and possibly some redness in the treated areas. These sensations are normal and can be managed with prescribed painkillers.

First Few Days: You may experience some redness and swelling in the transplanted areas for the first few days following the procedure. The scabbing process has now started and this is the first step in healing. Your surgeon will give you a detailed list of instructions on how to wash the transplanted area from day to day and what to do after the beard transplant operation. It is very important to follow these instructions to ensure proper healing.

  2. One-Two Weeks After Surgery

In this process, the edema and swelling that may be caused by the isotonic fluid injected during beard transplant gradually disappears. In line with the information, you receive from your medical consultant on how to clean the scabs, the recipient area should be cleaned at the end of the 2nd week at the latest.

  3. 2-4 Weeks After Surgery

The hair transplanted to the recipient area begins to fall out slowly during this period and may continue until the end of the 3rd month. This shedding phase is called shock loss and is a natural part of healing. It typically occurs as the transplanted hair follicles go into a resting phase before starting to grow again. Although the loss can be alarming, you should follow the post-operative instructions under the guidance of your medical consultant and trust the process.

Most patients can usually resume normal daily activities within the first one to four weeks after the procedure, depending on the physical fatigue of their work. If you inform your medical consultant about the exercises, you do and your occupation, they will give you information about the exact time you can start without negatively affecting your beard transplant result.

  4. Long Term Recovery (6-12 Months and Beyond)

Be Patient: The final results of a hair transplant can take a year or more to fully develop. Beard transplant results are visible gradually. Starting from the 6th month, the first growths turn into denser areas within 1 year.

Care: After your beard transplant, it is important to maintain results by following your surgeon's guidance for hair care and taking any prescribed medications or supplements to support hair health and longevity.

Scars and Incisions

One of the advantages of each technique used in beard transplant is that it minimizes scarring compared to traditional strip or linear harvesting methods. However, it is important to note that all beard transplant techniques involve some small incisions.

Scars and Incisions in Beard Transplant with FUE Technique

  1. Donor Area Scarring

The primary area where FUE involves incisions and potential scars is the donor area. In FUE Hairtransplant of these follicles:

Micro Incision: Instead of a single long incision, FUE employs a series of very small, circular or elliptical micro-incisions in the donor area. These incisions are typically 0.7 mm to 1.0 mm in diameter. The size of the incisions is deliberately kept small to minimize scarring.
Scarring: The individual micro-incisions in FUE are designed to heal with minimal scarring. These small, round or elliptical scars are often called “punch scars”. Scars are at the micro level and are not visible after recovery from beard transplant.

  2. Recipient Area Scarring

The recipient area where the beard grafts are transplanted also contains small incisions. However, these incisions are typically very small and heal quickly. They typically do not cause noticeable scars..

Scars and Incisions in Beard Transplantation with DHI Technique

  1. Donor Area Scarring

DHI aims to minimize scarring in the donor area where the beard follicles are harvested (typically the back and sides of the scalp). The small puncture marks or incisions used for follicle extraction are usually quite small and not noticeable to the eye.

  2. Recipient Area Scarring

The small incisions made with the Choi pen or implanter tool are designed to heal quickly and leave small, barely visible scars.
The aim is to create a natural-looking beard without visible scarring. For this reason, the scars in the recipient area in the beard transplant operation are too small to be visible.
