Breast Fat Transfer

Breast Fat Transfer

The breast fat injection procedure, known as autologous fat transfer or breast fat grafting, is an alternative option for patients who do not prefer breast implants. With the liposuction method, fat is removed from determined areas (such as the abdomen and thighs) and the purified fat is injected into the breast to create breast tissue of the targeted size and volume.

About Breast Fat Transfer

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and is generally suitable for patients targeting mild to moderate breast enlargement. It may not be a suitable alternative for patients who do not have enough fat tissue. In consultation with your surgeon, you can evaluate the best options for you.

How is the procedure performed?

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. After your surgeon makes markings in the appropriate areas where fat can be removed, the fat is collected with the help of a thin cannula. The collected fat is subjected to a purification procedure and excess fluids and damaged cells are eliminated. This process is also called purification. After this procedure, the prepared fat is carefully injected into the breast tissue and strategically distributed to create a natural look. At the end of fat harvesting and transfer, the incisions are closed with surgical sutures. The sutures dissolve spontaneously and do not need to be removed externally.

Incision and scar

In autologous fat transfer procedure, incisions are minimal compared to traditional breast augmentation operations. The incisions and scars in the donor area where fat is harvested and in the procedure area where fat is injected into the breast are the size of a suction tube and cannula.

  • Donor site ıncisions: Common donor sites include the abdomen or thighs. Incisions used for liposuction are usually limited to a few millimeters and are strategically placed to be inconspicuous.
  • Recipient area ıncisions: Incisions for fat to be injected into the breast area are very small and your surgeon will position them in inconspicuous locations.

Yes, fat transfer into the breast can be planned together with breast lift or revision breast surgery. The combination of procedures is often referred to as "composite breast augmentation" or "augmentation mastopexy".

13
Can fat transfer help correct breast implant related problems such as rippling or capsular contracture?

Yes, fat transfer into the breast can be used as a complementary procedure to address certain problems with the breast implant, such as rippling and capsular contracture. However, fat transfer alone may not be a definitive solution for these issues on a case-by-case basis. You should discuss your desired outcome with your surgeon.

14
Is there a risk of fat absorption or loss of transferred fat after the procedure?

Yes, there is a risk of fat absorption or loss of transferred fat after fat transfer, also known as fat transfer or autologous fat transfer. The proportion of fat to be injected should be planned to affect breast permanence after the procedure.
